What’s in the flu vaccine?
Flu shots are made with either inactivated (killed) viruses, or with only a single protein from the flu virus. The CDC says flu vaccines cannot cause flu illness.
How long does flu shot protection last?
The body’s immunity to influenza viruses (acquired either through natural infection or vaccination) declines over time. According to the CDC, getting vaccinated each year provides the best protection against flu throughout the season.
